Mrs. Wiencek’s Class
January 2017 Newsletter
Happy New Year! ! I’m hoping you all had a wonderful holiday. I had a great Christmas, chaotic as usual, but very nice. But I got sick the day after and was sick for the rest of the week. I guess it was my turn…
Dads, we love it when you come into our class! We’ve been so fortunate to have some dads come in recently. Please feel free to come in at any time, whether or not it’s a co-oping day for your family, for as long or short of a time as you are able!
In December, we made candy canes, some to hang up and patterned some with beads. And most of them ate a candy cane made out of sweet red pepper and string cheese coins. We made a fingerprint reindeer ornament, a cute reindeer sandwich, a stocking, wrapping paper, trees—hung them from the ceiling, and a yarn Santa. They tried (and succeeded) to earn cotton to fill Santa’s beard on our bulletin board. And ate a veggie Christmas tree! We’ve done a lot with the alphabet, numbers, patterning and LOTS of things for eye-hand coordination and small motor skills. So far, we have introduced and re-introduced the letters Bb, Cc, Dd, Ff, Gg, Hh, Ll, Oo, Pp, Rr, Ss, Tt, Ww and Yy
But I believe the highlight was our visit to Fox Run! Although it was a new experience for them and us, they were precious and I was very proud of them!
The books we read were: The Box (Barbara Bottner), Mooseltoe (Margie Palatini), There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bell (Lucille Colandro), and one of my all-time all-time favorites – How Santa Had a Long and Difficult Journey Delivering His Presents (Fernando Krahn).
In January we will learn about the new year, mittens vs. gloves, right and left, the four seasons, winter, pairs/symmetry, snow, ice, melting, penguins, polar bears, North and South poles and snowmen. Plus, we’re going to learn yoga at JoyWheel in East Aurora on the 19th! Whew! January is fun! I’m also doing evaluations in preparation for Parent/Teacher Conferences at the end of the month.
A few notes and reminders:
*We go outside as long as the temperature or wind chill is 25? or above. Be prepared!
*Attached is a permission slip and info sheet for our yoga field trip on the 19th. Fill out and return permission slip as soon as possible so I don’t have to keep after anyone! ;-)
Keep info sheet for reference!
*Parent-teacher Conferences on Thursday, January 26th, beginning at 8:15 a.m.
Sign-up sheet is posted.
I am blessed with wonderful, helpful, kind parents and grandparents of my class. Thank you! And thanks again for sharing your child with me. I truly enjoyed holiday preparations with them, especially on the last day before break. I kept them busy so there was a controlled excitement in the air. My favorite thing was watching them reach inside of a stocking and guessing what was in it, by feel and clues. I could see the wheels turning and it was precious! It is a wonderful class, full of sweet, bright, fun children! I look forward to the rest of the year with them.
